Big windows make for bright rooms and look out onto large expanses of lawn, a pond and small river (both unfenced), mature shrubs, a vegetable patch and terrace area with seating. Although you may be tempted to stay in all day and explore the garden, the surrounding area does not disappoint!
The culture and history of Scotland can be discovered and enjoyed at many local sites, one of which is Drumlanrig Castle with its beautiful gardens and famous art collection. The highest village in Scotland at Wanlockhead with its sister village of Leadhills is nearby and is the home of Scotland’s Lead mining museum. The nearby village of Moniaive, a finalist in the 2018 Scottish Culture Awards, is well worth a visit and hosts regular events including a Folk Festival (May,) a Horse Show. (July) and various music events throughout the year. Local town of Thornhill has a range of shops, pubs, and cafes.
