My support team will be happy to answer all your questions before and during your stay. ## Neighborhood My apartment is right in the heart of the city, in close proximity to everything Auckland has to offer. More importantly, it's tucked just behind K'Road (Karangahape Road)... the greatest, most character-laden neighbourhoods in Auckland. Perfect whether you’re visiting Auckland for a short period of time or have a longer stay in mind! Hands down, K'Road one of the best areas in this city to eat, drink, shop, people watch, or just commute through. (I might be slightly biased... but I LOVE my neighbourhood.) I'll let you discover the ancestry of K'Road for yourself but scroll down for my top neighbourhood picks! It's a short three blocks to Ponsonby Road and all it's assorted goings on including epic food and nightlife, and also within walking distance of the theatre district (Aotea Centre, Basement Theatre, Civic Theatre, Q Theatre), the Auckland Library, Auckland Art Gallery (Toi o Tāmaki), the Skytower, Auckland University, Queen Street, and a little further to the waterfront marinas and Viaduct. This really is the perfect location to live in the city like an Aucklander. Minutes from the main tourist hotspots, but staying in a neighbourhood full of locals and steeped in history! Close to... • Ponsonby • CBD • Eden Terrace • Mt Eden Village & Mt Eden Summit • Newmarket • Kingsland • Basque Park • Sky City • Aotea Square • Sky Tower MY TOP K'ROAD PICKS... 1. St. Kevin's Arcade, home to Bestie Cafe (airy and open seating area, delicious menu, free wifi), as well as a variety of independent book shops, NiceTouch Massage, Lebanese and Japanese restaurants in the evening, Tart vegan bakery, and LowBrow, Whammy and Wine Cellar for drinking, dancing, and socialising the night away. 2. Sit down dining: fantastic Italian-inspired food and happy hours at both Coco's Cantina and Cotto, down K'Road toward Ponsonby. Bar Celeste for a great wine list and small plates. Pokpok for excellent Thai, and Satya Chai Lounge (next to PokPok, largely unmarked, look for the coffee bags on the ceiling) has great tapas-style Indian eats and interesting cocktails. 3. Cheap eats all within a block on K'Road: Uncle Man's malaysian food, Krung Thep Thai Street Food, the Lim Chhour food court (the Thai place in there has the best Tom Yum Soup in the city, the rest are hit and miss), Sal's Pizza, Lord of the Fries (vegan fast food), Ken Yakitori for late night Japanese tapas. Ponsonby Food Court is a few blocks further but worth the extra 10 mins on foot for the BEST vegetarian Roti Chanai at the Malaysian place in there. 4. Cocktails: LoveBucket. Madame George. Cotto. Anthologie Lounge. 5. Music: Whammy Bar for the indie and punk shows. Neck of the Woods for DJs and anything electronic. Verona for the DJ in the front window on the weekends and their footpath spillout seating. LoveBucket also spins great tunes on the weekends. 6. Samoa House, home to the Samoa House Fine Arts Library, Oro Negro greenstone jewellery, and some out of it artwork just hanging out. You can walk through to K'Road from Samoa House Lane (runs behind my apartment building). 7. Independent shopping: ARCADE. Neighbourhood Goods. Smoove. Flying Out Records. Crushes. Search & Destroy. Cross Street Markets. All manner of second-hand stores, from capital-V Vintage to $2 clothes and charity op-shops. 8. Green spaces! • Symonds Street Cemetery: walk down K'Road toward Symonds Street and right before you hit the Motorway, you'll see the Jewish cemetery on your right. Take the path past it and you'll find yourself sandwiched in a beautiful old Auckland cemetery that spans both sides of the motorway (which was bulldozed through it in the '60s). It's freaky at night but beautiful during the day. • Meyers Park: take the wide staircase in St Kevin's Arcade and out into Meyers Park, which runs parallel down the Queen Street hill. A beaut of a little oasis in the middle of the CBD; it'll pop you out behind the Basement Theatre and the excellent Japanese restaurants Tanuki's Cave and Kura (highly recommend both!). • Western Park: walk across the Hopetoun Bridge over the motorway and you'll find a leafy jungle below you on the right hand side. Western Park cascades down an old river path stretching from Ponsonby Road at the top to Freeman's Bay and Victoria Park at the bottom. Feels like Jurassic Park in there sometimes, a great detour. 9. More coffee: Eight Thirty. Daily Daily. Miller's Coffee on Cross Street. Coffex for cheap takeaway caffeine on the run. 10. The practical stuff: everything else you need is within easy reach. Grocery stores, banks, mobile phone stores, dairies (corner stores), liquor stores, food, drink, pharmacy, watch repair, shoe repair, key cutting, outdoor and bike equipment, $2 shops, tattoo shops and the list goes on... ## Transit Walking distance to all major attractions. Parking: street parking is available (Auckland Transport Pay & Display), or Wilson’s operates a carpark 3 blocks away on Mercury Lane (hourly, daily, or monthly). Public transport: City Link and Inner Link buses stop along K'Road. City Link stops on Pitt Street across from Beresford Square. Major bus stops 2 blocks away on the K'Road Overbridge, and 4 blocks away on Symonds Street. Other transport: Uber/Zoomy/Ola and Lime Scooters abound. Walking routes to explore: • St Kevin's Arcade ==> Meyers Park ==> High Street ==> Britomart/Waterfront. • Hopetoun Bridge ==> Western Park ==> Victoria Park ==> Wynyard Quarter / Silo Park Waterfront. • K'Road ==> Ponsonby Road ==> Williamson Ave ==> Grey Lynn Park ==> Surrey Crescent Shops (stop for brunch/lunch/dinner up there!). ## Notes Please note there will be some personal belongings and also a few locked cupboards. Also note that it is an urban apartment; there's a motorway around one corner and a busy nightlife scene around the other, and you may hear loud foot traffic on the weekends (and occasionally non-weekends!), particularly if you're on the sofa bed. Every so often from the bedroom you can catch the strains of a DJ playing up on K'Road. Overall it's pretty quiet given it's location, but it isn't the suburbs! There is daytime construction happening around the corner for the City Rail Link (exciting!... in five years), which means there is low-impact noise during the day, and pedestrian access only to one half of the block.
